17.4 Aire River entrenched meander

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Location:17-180150. Aire River above Aire Crossing.

Access:
Phillip Track and Bateman Track.

Ownership:
Crown land.

Geology/Geomorphology:
This sector of the Aire River has meanders entrenched into the Mesozoic rocks but the depth of incision is less than in the gorge areas further downstream.

Significance:
Regional. The site illustrates one aspect of the development of the Aire River valley.
