Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Location:
102695. 400 m north of the 100 kilometre post of the Gelantipy - Buchan Road.		8523 9 to 13

Abstract:
Occurrence of common opal.

Access:
Gelantipy - Buchan Road.

Ownership:
Crown land (Road reserve).

Geology:
Common opal occurs at several localities in the Buchan area with the largest and best exposure at W Tree. At this locality several costeans have been excavated and although these have partially caved in, good quality common open can still be obtained.

Significance:
Regional. This locality is of particular interest to gem hunters.

Management:
Indiscriminate excavation in search of opal is resulting in substantial site disturbance. Prospecting should be confined to existing and unused trenches.
