Abstract: |
Occurrence of common opal. |
Access: |
Gelantipy - Buchan Road. |
Ownership: |
Crown land (Road reserve). |
Geology: |
Common opal occurs at several localities in the Buchan area with the largest and best exposure at W Tree. At this locality several costeans have been excavated and although these have partially caved in, good quality common open can still be obtained. |
Significance: |
Regional. This locality is of particular interest to gem hunters. |
Management: |
Indiscriminate excavation in search of opal is resulting in substantial site disturbance. Prospecting should be confined to existing and unused trenches. |
