Abstract:

Exposure of Bumble Creek Andesite.

Middle Creek Track

Geology:

The Bumble Creek Andesite outcrops in the headwaters of Middle Creek. It consists dominantly of porphyritic andesite interbedded with pre-grained basalt, although fine and medium grained diorites and very coarse hornblendite with occasional serpentinite are found in this area.

Significance:

Regional. The outcrop extent, and the relationship of the Bumble Creek Andesite with the surrounding Gibsons Folly Formation are not completely known. The Middle Creek site appears to provide a sequence which encompasses the range of rock types associated with this formation.

Management:

Access to the site should be maintained.
