Aust. Soil Class.: Episodic, Epipedal, Grey VERTOSOL (confidence level 2)

General Land Unit Description:
This land unit occurs on the alluvial plains of the Wannon River and its tributaries in the south-west of the study area. The major soil type used to represent this unit is a Black Dermosol, although Sodic Black Vertosols are co-dominant.

Geology: Quaternaly alluvial

Landform pattern: Level plain

Position in landscape: Alluvial terrace

Internal drainage: Imperfectly drained

Key profile features:

Clay texture throughout

Shallow topsoil depth

Soil cracks when dry

Strongly alkaline subsoil at depth

Sodic topsoil

Sodic subsoil

Subsoil dispersive when dry
