1-30 Basalt at Jones Ridge

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Locality:

7121-251893. Six kilometres south of Drik Drik.

Access:

Nelson-Winnap Road.

Geology/Geomorphology:

Greenwald-Cobboboonee Basalt dated at 2.35 m.y. occurs as a capping above the Jones Ridge Fault Scarp.

Significance:

Regional. This site is of particular interest for comparison with outcrops of similar basalt in the bank of the Glenelg River below Jones Ridge. They provide evidence of displacement of this fault.

Management:

The basalts are extensive to the west of Jones Ridge and it seems that localised land disturbance would not seriously detract from the significance of the site.
