5-4 Fawthrop Lagoon

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Locality:

7221-524545. Portland township.

Access:

Percy Street, Portland.

Geology/Geomorphology:

Fawthrop Lagoon is the estuarine lagoon of Wattle Hill Creek, but has been extensively modified as a storm water retardation basin.

Significance:

Local. Although severely disturbed, the lagoon is an indication of formers estuarine conditions.

Management:

The site is of limited geomorphological interest and planning consideration should be based on landscape values rather than retention of geomorphological significance.
