ESAS3 profile
ESAS3 profile
A250-20 cmLight yellowish brown (10YR6/4 moist) conspicuously bleached (10YR8/1 dry); with light yellowish brown (10YR6/4 dry) mottles; fine sandy loam; massive; very firm consistence (dry); with many 30% ferromanganiferous nodules (2-10 mm); pH 5.1; abrupt and wavy change to:
Note: The bleached A2 horizon can be up to 40 cm deep in places. There is also occasionally a transitional B1 horizon that is heavy fine sandy clay loam in texture – light yellow brown (10YR5/4) with brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) and red (2.5YR 4/6) mottles.
Subsoil
B2120-40 cmYellowish red (5YR4/6) with reddish yellow (7.5YR6/6) mottles in some areas; light medium clay; moderate to strong medium to very fine (2-20 mm) polyhedral structure; strong consistence (dry); pH 5.7; gradual change to:
B2240-55 cmBrownish yellow (10YR6/6) with yellowish red (5YR4/6) mottles common (10-20%); light medium clay; moderate coarse (20-50 mm) subangular blocky, parting to moderate to strong medium to very fine (2-20 mm) polyhedral structure; strong consistence (very slightly moist); pH 6.0; clear change to:
B2355-90 cmReddish brown (2.5YR5/3) with many (30%) brownish yellow slightly diffuse (10YR6/6) mottles; medium heavy clay; weak very coarse (>50 mm) subangular blocky structure; very strong consistence (slightly moist); few (5-10%) soft and semi hard manganese nodules; fine shiny ped faces; pH 7.4; gradual change to:
B2490-130+ cmLight reddish brown (2.5YR6/4); medium heavy clay; moderate very coarse (>100 mm) prismatic, parting to weak to moderate very coarse (>50 mm) subangular blocky structure; very strong consistence (slightly moist); few (5%) soft to semi hard calcareous (?) and very few (2%) ferromanganiferous (2-5 mm) nodules; fine shiny ped faces; pH 7.4.
