Swamps occur in depressions on the basalt plain viewed by Major Mitchell. This is the Middle Swamp, one of the Clunes Swamps. The other is called Merin Swamp. Both are Game Reserves managed by Fisheries and Wildlife Department. The rocks in the foreground indicate basaltic origin of the landscape.
