Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Location:Balliang Creek - 732185. Shire of Bacchus Marsh. South of Rowsley - Exford Road, 1.5 km west of Bacchus Marsh Road junction.

Rowsley - Hot Spring Depressions

Access:
Rowsley - Exford Road.

Ownership:
Private land.

Site Description:
A circular depression 400 m in diameter and 1.5 m deep is typical of several in the area. Although conclusive evidence is lacking, the depressions may be sites of former hot springs or fumaroles in the last stages of volcanicity.

Significance:
Regional. The depressions are unusual evidence of a stage in the volcanic history of the Werribee Lava plain.

Management:
Class 1. The site should not be artificially filled, reclaimed or subdivided for residential use.
