Location:Balliang Creek - 702069. Shire of Corio. Little River channel downstream from Ripley Bridge on the Geelong to Bacchus Marsh Road.

Ripley Bridge - Basalt Pavement

Access:
Geelong to Bacchus Marsh Road.

Ownership:
Private land.

Site Description:
The channel of Little River is here cut into Newer Volcanics basalt. The basalt is strongly jointed and regularly jointed and forms a tessellated pavement in the stream bed.

Significance:
Local. This is a clear and readily accessible example of the nature and influence of jointing in the Newer Volcanics basalt.

Management:
Class 2. Small weirs, culverts or causeways across the channel would obscure the form of the pavement. These should be located away from the best areas of jointed pavement.
