Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. See the Earth Science Heritage (external link) section of the Geological Society of Australia website for details of geological heritage reports, and a bibliography.

Location:Cleever Hill - 503320. Shire of Ballan. Valley of Moorabool River, 500 m to 1 km upstream from the Ballan-Egerton Road bridge.

Moorabool River - Ordovician/Permian Contact

Access:
Ballan-Egerton Road.

Ownership:
Crown land.

Site Description:
The valley slopes expose an extensive area of the unconformable contact between the basement Ordovician rocks and the Permian glacial deposits.

Significance:
State. The site is an important display of unconformity described above.

Management:
The site should be retained as Crown land. Large scale engineering works or water storages that would obscure the site should not be permitted.
