G15 - Yarra Glen - Bluff and Meander Cut-Off

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Site G15

Access:
Walk along Healesville railway line from Yarra Glen railway station. Boat access is possible.

Geology/Geomorphology:
The bluff marking the northern edge of the Yarra River floodplain is clearly defined west of Yarra Glen. South-west of the railway station, the river under-cuts the bluff along two reaches and exposes sedimentary rocks of Humevale Formation. A large asymmetrical meander loop has been isolated by a neck cut-off adjacent to the railway bridge. The terrace on the north of the river has areas of high level alluvium.

Significance:
Local. The area contains features typical of the western section of the Yarra flats.

Management:
Class 3. No special management requirement applies to the features at this site.
