Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. See the Earth Science Heritage section of the Geological Society of Australia website for details of geological heritage reports, and a bibliography.

Location:Lethbridge - 514044. Shire of Bannockburn. Valley of Yankee Creek near junction of Sutherland Creek.

Access:
Meredith-Steiglitz Road.

Ownership:
Private land.

Site Description:
Folded, faulted and jointed Ordovician sedimentary rocks outcrop along Yankee Gully and Sutherland Creek. Exposures are clear and sedimentary and tectonic structures are clearly displayed. A number of graptolite fossil localities are known from the area.

Significance:
Regional The site is a clear display of the lithological, structural, and palaeontological characteristics of the Lower Palaeozoic rocks of the area.

Management:
Class 2. Building or mining activities should be restrained from causing damage to hard rock structures outcropping above the creek.
