Swamp

Swamp - Symbol:sw

This is also a minor mapping unit that occurs as a complex within the Rosebud mapping unit (Ro/sw) and on the eastern side of the Mornington Peninsula near to or adjoining the coastline of Westernport Bay. The vegetation is largely intact and is swamp scrub or coastal saltmarsh. The soils are wet for most of the year and are not suited to agriculture. In general the soils are dark grey clays or silty clays, which become steely grey with depth. These soils can be described as Extratidal Hydrosols (along coast) or Semiaquic Podosols (in Rosebud area) using the Australian Soil Classification.
