Tootgarook

Tootgarook - Symbol: Tg

The Tootgarook swamp occurs south of Tootgarook east of Truemans Road. The surface soils within the swamp largely consist of peat that has been derived from reeds, rushes and in some areas, swamp paperbark. The vegetation is more or less intact and is a wetland formation with swamp scrub. The peat is very dark grey to black and appears to become slightly sandy with depth. The watertable is very close to the surface - making field examination of the soils by soil auger difficult. These soils can be referred to as Fibric Organosols using the Australian Soil Classification.
