5.8 Older alluvial plains

5.8.1 Older alluvial plains

To the west of Merbein the broad older alluvial plains are often buried by calcareous, aeolian landforms such as north west - south east ridges, hummocky dunes and east-west trending linear dunes. These landforms are common in the southern and eastern parts of the broad plains. Susceptibility to wind erosion is moderate on the plains and upper slopes of the hummocks and ridges, and high on the linear dunes.
