Back to Soil health checklist – managing for healthy soil
A soil health management plan (SHMP) is one way to plan for healthier soils. There are many advantages in thinking of a SHMP to build a farm scale, paddock-by-paddock approach for the reliable production of crop. A SHMP can be as simple or as complex as the knowledge, skill and time of the land manager allow.
There are three basic elements of a SHMP:
- Soil inventory and interpretation – What do we have?
- Assessment and monitoring – How is it going?
- Planning and management - What can we do to get the best from the soil?
