Pennisetum villosum R. Br. ex Fresen.

Common Name:

Feathertop (white foxtail, long style feather grass)

Habitat:

Native of North Africa & the Arabian Peninsular. Naturalised in many warm parts of world, in moister areas of semi-arid or arid subtropics, on disturbed soils which receive run off along roads, creeks & riverbanks, particularly near settled areas. Grows best in sandy soils but not restricted to them. A major weed of pineapples in India (Parsons & Cuthbertson 1992). In New Zealand invades roadsides, pasture, wasteland, shingle banks, gravel bars & lawns (Edgar & Connor 2000). In Australia a weed of roadsides, pasture (Walsh & Entwisle 1994), rail reserves (Lamp & Collet 1984), footpaths, vacant land (Kleinschmidt & Johnson 1977), islands, coastal areas, disturbed sites (Parsons & Cuthbertson 1992) & some grassy woodland & grassland communities (South East Weeds 2008).
