Habitat:

Native to Africa, temperate Asia and Europe. Found along rivers and watercourses. Of all willows, is most tolerant of brackish water. Prefers a damp, heavy soil in open sunny position (Bodkin 1986). Found from sea level to subalpine mountain zones, although most abundant on lowlands.
