4. Albert River Terraces

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Location:
551327. Four kilometres south of Hiawatha.

Gravel terrace (A) at flood level, and higher-level terrace (B) - Albert River at Hiawatha.

Access:
Albert River Road.

Ownership:
Private Land.

Geology/Geomorphology:
Two river terraces are developed on the eastern side of the Albert River. The lower terrace is at river flood level and contains coarse gravels and sands.

Significance:
Regional. The terraces are well defined and illustrate clearly the morphology of confined flood plains.

Management:
Quarrying of the lower terrace should not be permitted along this sector of the creek.
