| Subsoil |
| B21 | 35 - 80 cm | Very dark greyish brown (10YR3/2); light clay; moderate coarse polyhedral structure; very weak consistence moist; gradual and smooth transition to: |
| B22 | 80 – 130 cm | Dark greyish brown (10YR4/2); light clay; weak coarse polyhedral structure; weak consistence moist; diffuse and smooth transition to: |
| B23 | 130 – 170 cm | Dark greyish brown (10YR4/2); light clay; weak coarse polyhedral structure; weak consistence moist. |
Key Profile Features:
- Lack of strong texture contrast between surface (A) horizon and subsoil (B) horizons
Other Notes:
- This profile is much deeper than is typical for the Balook clay loam soil type.
- Pit excavated to 2 metres depth - no impeding layers apparent.
- The soil profile also has a weak consistence when moist. This should present few limitations for root development.
