Major Soil Groups
Vertosols | Calcarosols | Hardsetting Sodosols | Non-hardsetting Sodosols
Thirteen major soil groups have been described in the Eastern Wimmera region by Nabil Badawy (1984).
Three soil groups are recognised within the Vertosol Order:
- Group 1. Black and Grey Self-Mulching Vertosols
- Group 2. Brown and Red Self-Mulching Vertosols
- Group 3. Vertosols with Bleached Subsurface Horizons
One soil group is recognised within the
Calcarosol Order:
- Group 4. Calcareous earths
Six soil groups are recognised within the
Hardsetting Sodosols Order:
- Group 6. Hardsetting Red Sodosols
- Group 7. Hardsetting Mottled Red Sodosols
- Group 8. Hardsetting Brown Sodosols
- Group 9. Hardsetting Mottled Brown Sodosols
- Group 10. Hardsetting Yellow Sodosols
- Group 11. Hardsetting Mottled Yellow Sodosols
Two soil groups are recognised within the
Non-hardsetting Sodosols Order:
- Group 12. Non-hardsetting (friable) Mottled Red Sodosols
- Group 13. Non-hardsetting (friable) Mottled Yellow Sodosols
