Dark reddish brown (5YR3/4); sandy clay loam; weakly structured; weak consistence; few calcareous nodules; pH 8.6; gradual boundary to:

Pinkish grey (5YR6/2); loamy sand; weak structure; weak consistence, dry ; abundant calcareous nodules; pH 8.5.


Management Considerations

  • Gradational to texture contrast profile, calcareous, almost a Calcarosol.
  • Alkaline throughout and calcareous, subsoil is not dispersive.
  • Landscape position as crest of subdued ridge; may be lunette? Chemically relatively stable but exposure (of lighter surface) will accelerate wind and sheet erosion.
