Status:

Native to the coastlands of all Australian States and the Northern Territory.

Plant Description:

Green, perennial, intricately branching shrub to 2 m tall. Branchlets consist of short segments called articles. Fresh vegetative articles are bright green, glaucous or reddish and 3-10 mm long.

Flowering articles 2-5 or rarely 6, almost globular on a very short spike < 1 cm long. Flowers in 3’s, the central one bisexual and the laterals male. Seed elliptic with a smooth coat.

Habitat:

Coastal saltmarsh around Western Port Bay, Port Phillip Bay and Corner Inlet and scattered elsewhere along the western Victorian coastline.

Comments:

Similar in general appearance to Black-seeded Samphire (Tecticornia pergraulata) and Beaded Glasswort (Sarcocornia quinqueflora).
