Status:

Native to all mainland states of Australia.

Plant Description:

Tufted, perennial grass with rhizomes and/or stolons and growing to 90 cm tall. Leaves are hairless, slightly rough, to 20 cm long and 9 mm wide. Flower-head is a panicle 12-35 cm long with branches 1-4 cm long, loosely appressed to the main axis. Spikelets are 2.4-3.2 mm long and contain a male or barren lower floret and a bisexual upper floret.

Habitat:

Largely confined to alluvial clay flats along the Murray and Loddon Rivers and associated lake and stream systems. Indicative of freshwater habitat.
